“About – Come In”

In 2007 a simple accident resulted in a broken neck leaving me paralysed from the neck down and unable to breathe on my own. I am connected to a ventilator 24 hours a day.

I have been through some tough challenges and been lost through dark times but I have also laughed and loved, probably more than I did before the accident.

It has taken this turn of events for me to truly appreciate what I always had in life. It has also helped me to see the failings of my old lifestyle. I didn’t realise how selfish, vain, materialistic and ignorant I could be (that list is by no means exhaustive).

I live a very different life now and although I am far from perfect, I am aware of my weaknesses and slowly working away at them.

No questions are off limits so if there is anything you would like to know, ask. Hopefully I can tell my story, share some experiences, talk about my feelings and no doubt have the odd rant. More than anything, I would love to help if someone is struggling through a disability or that of a loved one.

I’m keeping this brief but sketching the outline will reveal a little more if you wish.

Feel free to say hello at any time.

  1. Hi Steven,

Your visit to my humble blog is truly an honour. Our day is drawing to a close in my part of the world and I want to take my time to read through your blog before commenting any more. Regarding your comment about similar interests: Colleen’s Chatter Blog would probably be one of them ๐Ÿ˜‰

I will most certainly be following your life story. Doing a little math, this means you have been differently abled for about 6 years now and that is a long time. I commend you for your strength of will and purpose to live your life the way you want to.

I’ll be back soon to read more and (maybe) drop a line or two. Till then, take care and enjoy life ๐Ÿ™‚

    Warmest regards from the Philippines,

PS – I’m now following you on twitter…

    • I have just caught up with my twitter so the e-mail follow widget has been added, thanks for pointing that out.

Yeah, it will be six years come May. Sounds like a long time but reliving the experiences they feel like yesterday.

Thanks for following and I look forward to any comments or questions, nothing is off limits!

I’ll go back and have a read through more of your posts but pizza and kissing really got me thinking about some of my own writing. Thank you for that and thank you for dropping by and following back.

    • Bravo Bravo. Only right to introduce yourself, you have great family stories to tell but YOU are the main character. I am certain your followers will appreciate the insight. Well done.

  12. Steven,
Bless you. I admire your strength and how your words can help others!

    • For you to say that my words can help others is quite a compliment, considering the motivation for your own posts. I have been passing by on occasion and always enjoy your writing.

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment, much appreciated

      • You are welcome, thank you for taking the time to read my posts.

Thanks for stopping by, appreciate you thinking about me. I’ll be back soon!

  16. Steven, I know you are busy and do not accept awards. Well, I still had to offer this to you; there is not much homework for this one thought and it WAS written in invisible ink all over the 5 awards, the name “Steven!” So please accept this award. Click this link to follow to this award, http://wp.me/3ia4v You do not have to nominate more than one person if you have the time and if you donโ€™t, itโ€™s still yours because, you have earned it in how you inspire us with just being the Steven you are. Blessings and hugs, Oliana, Whispering Insights

    • That is extremely kind of you Oliana, especially considering I am taking a break at the moment. I am honoured you would still think of me. Thank you kindly, Steven

  18. Georgie Foster

Steven – hope this is the best way to contact you. You have no idea how much comfort reading this has given me! My mum was in a car accident about a week ago and is pretty much exactly in the same position you were in. She will be paralysed from the neck down and is currently in intensive care on a ventilator and going through some pretty unpleasant operations to re align her spine etc etc, im sure you probably know. Her neck and back broke as well as severe damage to ligaments, plates and spinal chord etc. I don’t really know what im talking about but i can pass on what doctors have told me! She will be in intensive care for a few months I think and then transferred to another hospital for “many months”. She has four children – Me (19, my birthday was the day of the accident!) my sister (15) and my two younger brothers (10 and 8). Obviously we are finding it difficult and as dad spends his entire time at the hospital we are alone at home a lot of the time. But anyway I know you aren’t the person to ask about our troubles but I just wanted to maybe ask you a few questions about mum on email or something? How she will cope etc etc. Generally maybe get a bit of insight on how our and her life will work in general once she is out of the hospital. if this blog is the best way to talk ill ask them on here! Sorry if this message is abit jumbled, haven’t been thinking very straight but was so relieved to find this blog. Hope you get this message and can reply! Im not very good with technology but will try and work out how to check it again. Thanks so much for posting this and for replying if you do ๐Ÿ™‚ Georgie x

    • Thanks for getting in touch Georgie, sending you an e-mail right now X
